Artists have always been inspired by the geographic features of the Otago peninsula. Most notably Colin McCahon and Robin White. Their magnificent paintings can be seen in the Dunedin public library and Dunedin public hospital respectively.
I am also drawn to the peninsula, in particular the actual form of the land. I have attempted to accentuate these forms in my paintings by simplifying and editing extraneous detail.
The whole exhibition is taken from one specific area near Hereweka (Harbour cone). -Kit Macgregor
My mixed media works in this exhibition are of buildings that are in some way quintessentially New Zealand. These small cribs and boatsheds found along the harbour side of the Peninsula have aged developing appealing character and patina. - Alison Bevers
