Judy Smith

I come from a very creative family and attended after school classes with the renowned New Zealand artist H. V. Miller. Several years ago I attended exceptional classes at Kings High School which got me highly motivated again.

I've always loved the styles of the impressionist painters, particularly the wonderful earthy landscapes of Cezanne. Other influences have been the New Zealand regionalist painters of the 30s and 40s such as William Sutton and Rata Lovell Smith. I paint in acrylics and enjoy how colours work together. There is beauty in familiarity and I like to paint something people will recognise, a glimpse of something you might see when you turn a corner.

My printmaking involves woodblock printing and I am inspired by the work of the American woodblock printer William Seltzer Rice.
